AI isn’t an effective shortcut for content creation.
I’ve never written a blog about AI before. Mostly because I don’t like doing something just because everyone else is doing it.
When AI first turned up, I like many others in the Content creator, Virtual Assistant, and copywriting space, was worried about how it would affect my business. There is no doubt it has greatly changed the landscape. I’ve heard conversations such as “why would I pay someone when I can get AI to do it for free?” That opinion is their prerogative.
But we are some years down the line now, and many people who jumped into the AI world early are now “coming back” to working with people to regain the human connection. In general our audiences have learnt to spot AI generated content a mile off and in my experience they find it less credible. People want to get to know a person when they read content and they don’t get that when you give them AI content.
Because of the way AI works, the results it generates are often bland and lacking uniqueness, which defeats the point of marketing, you need to stand out, not blend in.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not impossible to get good content from AI but to do that needs very good prompts, which means teaching AI about your voice and your business. This takes time and if you’re already time poor, looking for shortcuts then training an AI tool is just adding to your overwhelmed to-do list.
Lets not forget AI is searching the internet for content that already exists to answer your prompt. If you use the results it gives you directly, you are risking plagiarising someone else’s work. It is also notorious for not sense checking the results, meaning you always have to include proofreading and editing any results you get. If you need to rewrite what it produces, I question again, is it really making the content creation process easier?
This is why I see AI as a tool to shortcut my research phases, so that instead of going down internet rabbit holes myself and losing time, I ask AI to do the searching for me. That way I am never copy and pasting results out as content.
If AI is not a solution you're comfortable with, what's the alternative? Working with humans that’s what. I am a content creation assistant. The clients I work with tell me their ideas and what they wish to turn them into and I do the next bit. Like AI but instead of Artificial Intelligence, I am Actually Interested in the results being a success.
You can have human support that actually cares.
Yes, working with people usually involves spending money whereas AI has free plans but with all the downsides we’ve mentioned, I think it’s a clear case of you get what you pay for and spending money with a fellow business owner is about making the world go round and what you give out will come back to you in return.
I’d love to hear you’re thoughts on AI content creation. I know I’ve barely scratched the surface of the conversation today. Hop over to my Instagram and DM your comments.
