5 Questions to consider before joining a new platform

It's so easy to get caught up in the pressure to be on all platforms to succeed. Couple that with FOMO from the buzz generated when a new platform lands, and you can quickly find yourself overwhelmed by your socials.

So before you join any new platforms, consider these 5 questions.

Do your dream customers hang out there?

I think this is the first question to ask because if the answer is no, the rest of the questions don’t matter. After all, if your customers aren’t there it will be a waste of your time. You wouldn’t take a meat stall to a vegan food festival.

Do you have time for another platform?

Sounds obvious, but how does your workload feel now? Would adding more to your to-do list make you feel overwhelmed? Remember quality is better than quantity.

Do you like the type of content the platform is based on?

There is no point joining TikTok for example, if you hate making videos because you won’t show up if you don’t enjoy it. I don’t use LinkedIn because it just doesn’t feel like my type of space.

How can the platform help your business?

There is no point in being there for the sake of it. Do you have a clear idea of how the time involved will be worth it?

Is it a fast-paced or evergreen platform?

This will affect the time commitment involved in maintaining your profile. It is worth having a mix of fast paced and evergreen content so that you have a variety of ways for people to hear from you. Whilst balancing your workload. For example, well-set-up Pinterest pins once published can carry on driving traffic to the link location as long as the link is live, meaning it requires less input to create an impact for you.

If you have thought about all these questions and it still feels like the right thing to do then, go join that platform and enjoy!
